River Kwai
1650 W. Belmont Ave.
Chicago, IL
real late (3-4am)
Probably one of the worst looking restaurants you'll ever go in. Watch out, beanpoles, for the low ceilings with exposed ductwork and the uneven floors. A recent renovation leaves it looking less dilapidated, but still a tiny hole in the wall that produces the most amazing quantities of late night thai food you will ever see. Opens whenever the owner feels like, in the late evening, probably not before 9 PM, and closes at 6AM. A mountain of excellent food for $10 to $15, bring a friend and sit with some tea in a plastic lawn chair next to the space heater for the half hour wait, or call ahead. Good food takes time.
