Star Seeds Cafe
1920 S Congress Ave
Austin, TX
all damned night!
Location: Scope the area between 32nd and 26th street on the east-side access road if I-35 for this wafflehouse gone bad gone punk gone grease gone good. It's kind of attached to the Days Inn, across from AusTexMex.
Ambience: Servers that have in the past: told us to give their girlfriends the 'shocker' and made my roommate drink water out of a bowl on the floor, but also have a ton of fun doing their jobs. Walls are decked with a combination of random photographs and artwork from local creative-types (usually for sale). Smoking permitted throughout from 2pm-7am.
Food: Standard diner / greasy spoon fare, with the usual Austin twists: veggie omelettes and burgers as well as crisp salads are available but the real treast on this menu are the platefuls of cholesterol one can consume. Fine selection of beers available at the bar.
Personal Favorite: The Eye Opener Breakfast. Watch as it closes your arteries with 2 buttermilk biscuits, open faced, topped wtih scrambled eggs topped with sausage topped with gravy. Nothing is sweeter at 4 am. Hours: 24/7, seating is usually immediate or within 10 minutes.
Special Features: Check the graf in the bathrooms, they're usually head to toe. Bring a sharpie and add your own. And wash your hands.
